Does IO Transfer need a network between the two devices?

No. The payload travels as light from screen to camera. There is no pairing, cloud relay, or network path between the devices for the transfer itself.

Is the optical transfer encrypted?

Not by default. Any camera aimed at the sending screen can read the stream. Enter the same optional passphrase on both devices to encrypt the payload with AES-GCM.

Does it work offline?

Yes after the first visit. The progressive web app caches itself; transferred content is never uploaded to a server.

How do I receive a file?

Open https://iotransfer.com/receive, allow the camera, fill the viewfinder with the sender's QR stream, and save when SHA-256 verification succeeds.
